Course Overview

The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at work qualification is designed for anyone who needs to or would like to be an emergency first aider in low risk environments. For higher risk work environments please see the 3 day Level 3 First Aid at Work course.

This regulated qualification is in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981 and provides learners with the skills and knowledge to deal with first aid situations in low and high risk environments. Please note that this qualification has now been upgraded from a Level 2 to Level 3 in line with the latest regulations.

The principles of placing an unconscious casualty in the recovery position including practical

Signs and symptoms of a seizure
How to manage a casualty who is having a seizure

Session 4

The principles of the chain of survival
The reasons why CPR is required to be undertaken
What is CPR
The respiratory system
How to provide CPR
When to stop CPR
Practical session on undertaking CPR

Session 5

The two types of choking
How to administer first aid to a choking casualty including practical

Session 6

Identifying the different types of external bleeding
The principles of controlling a bleed
The principles of infection control
Practice applying dressings to a casualty with and without embedded objects

Session 7

What is shock
Examples of the causes of shock
The signs and symptoms of shock
The principles of shock treatment

Session 8

How to administer first aid to a casualty with small cuts, grazes and bruises
How to administer first aid to a casualty with a small burn or scald
How to administer first aid to a casualty with a splinter
